Overview

Because of contract requirements, candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

You will help Artis develop new generations of sensing and active defense technologies in a fast-paced and exciting environment.

As part of a small and dedicated team, you will support the engineering staff. General duties include assembly of electrical and mechanical components, design of test setups, and utilizing measurement and test equipment. Mentorship and on the job training is provided by the engineering staff. Specific duties may include board design using Altium, analysis using Excel and MATLAB, lab testing, and field testing of components and systems.

This position requires no travel and is located in Artis’ Herndon Virginia office.

Hourly rate dependent on years of education completed - generally, from $17.00 - $24.00

Requirements

  • Competent with Microsoft Office

Preferred Experience

  • Schematic capture and board design experience with at least 4 layer designs (Altium preferred)
  • Analysis of circuits using SPICE simulations
  • Familiarity with basic board design concepts
  • Soldering both through hold and surface mount components down to 0805
  • Understanding of basic digital communication interfaces including I2C, SPI, RS232, RS485, CAN bus, LIN, LVDS, ethernet, PCIe
  • Use of meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronics test equipment
  • MATLAB
  • Familiar with at least 1 microcontroller
  • Visual Studio/VS Code for C#, python, and C++
  • Additional Microsoft tools including Visio and Access

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position works in an office environment 50% of the time with remaining time spent in lab areas and indoor and outdoor testing areas.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flexibility. One hour unpaid lunch from 12:30 – 1:30 with flexibility. Part time opportunities may be available for those with prior internship experience at Artis.

Physical Demands

The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance on a ladder at heights up to 10 ft. The employee will be required to work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions. The employee will be required to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
